Middle School
The motto of LWIS-CiS is: “Where every child is a cornerstone of our school”. Hence, because every child matters, learners at the Middle School Section are offered multi-level classes in almost all subjects that apply differentiated instruction and inquiry-based learning, with the heavy use of technology, to cater for the learners’ needs and provide them with the challenge and motivation needed to realize their potential.
The main language of instruction for the American Program learners is English while French and Arabic are offered as second languages. For the Lebanese Program learners, the main languages of instruction are English and Arabic whereas French is offered as a second language. Support classes in math and English (language, reading and writing) are provided for learners showing weakness in those skills to bridge gaps and strengthen those skills. The Integration and Support Department also caters for Middle School learners with special needs by providing in and out of class support.
Middle School learners have taken part in different competitions, including art, sports and reading. Each year, the section sends delegates to the Model United Nations where they compete and win diplomacy awards and position paper awards. The learners of the section undertake some charity work through the Community Service Program (YSI) at school and have succeeded in aiding the less fortunate members of our society in many projects. Learners have also been conducive to saving our environment by being active members of recycling projects to collect and recycle garbage and plastic bottles. The Honor Society of the section has been growing gradually over the years, and its members of hard-working learners are as dedicated as ever to being good citizens and leaders in society as well as good sportsmen and sportswomen. Honor society members who maintain distinction or high distinction on the honor roll throughout the academic year will be members of the Principal’s List.
Every year, the Middle School learners participate in the Founder’s Day event to celebrate the values upon which LWIS-CiS was founded.
It is through cooperation with our learners, parents, administration, teachers, and staff that the school has become accredited by NEASC in 2011, after only eight years of its founding. We hope to continue working hand in hand to live up to our philosophy of catering to every individual learner now and in the future in order to have a generation of global citizens who are critical thinkers, problem solvers, responsible, ethical and good communicators.
In its ten-year accreditation visit report, the NEASC visiting team describes LWIS-CiS as “a school with a ‘Growth Mindset’ that flows into learning for students in all areas of school life. The visiting team witnessed vivid examples of ACE Learning, from your youngest student to the senior high school. The report also describes a school community that is strongly connected through the love of its students and an ambition to be a beacon of excellence in the Middle East and beyond.”
Senior School
The aim of the senior school is to embody and facilitate the mission and vision of LWIS-CiS, which is to motivate and mold our youth into responsible and respectable lifelong learners equipped to face the technological developments of the 21st Century. This section is also designed to provide and facilitate opportunities for learners of grades 10, 11, and 12 (Lebanese, IBDP and American programs) to develop the talents that they are aware of and to also become well aware of yet undiscovered talents.
If you were to take a walk around the block, you would see a beehive of active boys and girls enthusiastically occupied in and out of the classrooms in various tasks; while some may be experimenting in labs, others would be outdoors, in the courtyard verifying that the projects they have built and worked on are successful. Other students would be in the classrooms using their devices, doing web quests, might see students in the art room adding finishing touches to their art pieces. You might luckily catch a sneak peek of parts of the Founder’s Day Musical being filmed for the annual end –of- year production. You could even catch a glimpse of student and teacher volunteers, properly equipped with gloves etc…, collecting bottle caps and other recyclable materials, or collecting donations for some community service project assigned to help the needy in our society.
Since we at LWIS-CiS believe that every child is a cornerstone of our society, we pride ourselves in the knowledge that we cater to all our learners through our multi-level system from basic to advanced levels in all major subjects. Because the school is committed to an international education and in order to allow our learners maximum versatility in their future lives, the school also provides courses such as statistics, history, phycology, sociology, marketing, business, drama, arts, fashion making, video production, photography, robotics and many others.
Our holistic approach enables our learners to develop their interests and skills as good communicators, analytical thinkers, risk takers, and carers, and also helps them understand more about themselves and the potential they may have; thus, enabling them develop their minds socially and emotionally in order to empower them for their own learning and world out there.
